Leadership Workshop for School Prefects and Captains Commences in Dharamshala

ATWS Dharamshala, December 23, 2024: Around forty-three students, led by sixteen escorts from various Tibetan schools under STSS, TCV, THF, and SLF across India and Nepal, are attending a Six-Day Leadership Workshop for School Prefects and captains, being organized by the Department of Education, CTA, from December 23 to 28, 2024, at the Administrative Training and Welfare Society, Dharamshala. ATWS is facilitating the workshop with venue and service facilities.

The Opening Ceremony was presided over by the Chief Guest, Education Kalon Mrs. Changra Tharlam Dolma la, along with a team of Officials from the Education Department.

The Session began with a welcome address and an introductory remark by the Additional Secretary of the Education Department cum Head of the Academic Section; Mr. Tenzin Dorjee la, who gave an overview of the program encompassing its background, objectives, program topics, and the instruction on rules and regulations of the workshop.

This workshop aims to raise awareness of the evolution of the democratic system by introducing the participants to the different departments of the CTA, the functioning of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile, and equipping them with leadership and Communication skills.

Further, it aims to foster a new generation of Tibetan Youth with awakened wisdom of discernment between right and wrong, freedom of thought and action, an altruistic view of preserving one’s culture and natural environment, and innovative thinking skills, as per the long-term aims of education under Basic Education Policy.

Following that, the Chief Guest, Education Kalon, Mrs. Changra Tharlam Dolma la, in her keynote address highlighted some key areas that the participants must focus on as leaders.

She sensitized the participants to the immense hard work and sacrifices made by the previous generation of many civil servants under the visionary leadership of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in shaping the CTA to its present state of abundant resources while emphasizing the importance of fulfilling one’s responsibilities, as rights come along with some duties, as she added.

She advised them to be sincere, honest, and self-disciplined in one’s conduct and urged them to take special care to ban bullying in Schools before such unwanted habits perpetuate in their later life of family and workplace by raising concern over the rising number of mentally challenged Special Need Children in Schools and finally advised them to make the most of the learning opportunity, share the learning with their peers to ultimately fulfill the long-term visions of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The opening ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks from the undersecretary of the education department, Mr. Dorjee Wangdue la.

Around twelve speakers from various educational backgrounds will be facilitating the workshop.

In the coming days, there will be deliberation on diverse topics like Tibetan Democracy in exile, the importance of Tibetan language and culture, the DoE scholarship program, Cyber Security and Safety, Gender Equality in Schools, Learning and Leadership, Leadership and Communication Skills, Career Mapping, SEE Learning, Sharing and Reflection, CTA introduction and visit to different CTA departments, HH the Dalai Lama Library and Archive.
