Insight and Prospect: Tibetan Cooperative’s Conference begins in Dharamshala

ATWS Dharamsala, May 22, 2024: The Home Department, Central Tibetan Administration( CTA ) is organising the Insight and Prospect: Tibetan Cooperative’s Conference from 22 to 24, May 2024, at the Administrative Training and Welfare Society Dharamshala. ATWS is facilitating the event with the venue and service facilities.
The Conference aims to primarily explore the opening of tourism-like new business avenues in suitable Tibetan Settlements along with a focus on identifying the Cooperatives needing administrative improvement and discussion on the overall integral improvement of the Tibetan Settlements.
Around forty-four participants of Chief Representative Officers, Cooperative Chairmen & Secretaries, and Settlement Officers of various Tibetan Settlements across India and Nepal attended this conference.
The Inaugural Ceremony held this morning at the ATWS Thumi Hall was presided over by Chief Guest Home Kalon, Sikyong Mr. Penpa Tsering la, and other CTA Senior Leaders. The Ceremony began with an auspicious lamp lighting by the chief guest, followed by his keynote speech and an Introductory remark by Home Secretary Mr. Palden Dhondup la.
Sikyong Penpa Tsering la said that every individual must introspect on what each one owes in fulfilling one’s day-to-day responsibility to earn His Holiness’s Blessings. Further, he spoke on the 16th Kashag’s stand towards benefitting the overall well-being of the Tibetan Community, where it sees the possibility of leveraging the Agriculture and the Cooperative Sections and therefore urged the participants to explore through this conference new dimensions of collaboration between the Cooperatives, the Settlement Offices, and the Home Department for improved operation and productivity of the Cooperatives to uplift Community’s livelihood eventually.
Similarly, Home Secretary Mr. Palden Dhondup la briefed the gathering about the initial establishment of the Cooperatives in the Tibetan Settlements and implored the masses to combat the challenges that underlie the gradual evolution of the Cooperatives through a sincere collective effort with an open mindset.
The Ceremony concluded with a vote of thanks by the Home Additional Secretary, Mr. Jampa Phuntsok la, who sincerely thanked both speakers for their wholehearted speeches and all other present at the session.
The conference in the coming days will include various presentations and discussions on Settlement improvement.
