Health Department Organized HIV Awareness and Care Workshop in Dharamshala

ATWS Dharamshala, May 31, 2025: The Department of Health, CTA, launched a 3-day workshop on HIV Awareness and Care at the Administrative Training and Welfare Society (ATWS) in Dharamshala. ATWS is facilitating the training with venue and service facilities. The workshop, running from May 29-31, 2025, aims to educate nurses and patients about HIV transmission, prevention, and treatment options.
During the inaugural ceremony, Health Secretary Mr. Jampa Phuntsok la emphasized the significance of the workshop, appreciating nurses’ dedication despite challenges posed by rapidly evolving technology. He encouraged them to continue their noble work, highlighting the importance of kindness and service to others, in line with His Holiness’s teachings.
The workshop’s objectives include promoting safe practices, reducing stigma and discrimination, strengthening nurses’ capacity to manage HIV-positive patients, and providing emotional support to patients. Resource persons include LTWA Director Ven. Geshe Lhakdor la, doctors from Delek Hospital and Mentsekhang, technical expert Mr. Anoop Kumar and some Officials from the Health Department.
Over the two days, participants engaged in sessions covering Western and Traditional Tibetan Medicine perspectives on HIV, Buddhist approaches to dealing with stress, and basic coping strategies. A site visit was scheduled for the third day.
This workshop brought together 23 participants, including nurses and patients from various settlements, to foster a supportive community and enhance care for those affected by HIV.
